Couples counseling is a great resource if your relationship is struggling, whether due to arguments, miscommunications or lack of intimacy. Your needs and goals for your relationship will be heard. To meet those goals you and your partner will be encouraged to repair emotional wounds, and learn to utilize new forms of communication; which includes both talking and listening. Couples counseling is a forum to voice your concerns and hopes for the future in a safe, controlled environment to assist with making your relationship goals a reality.
People every day are attempting to cope with issues and stressors in their life, whether at home, work, or struggling with symptoms of depression, past trauma, or mood swings. Individual counseling will allow you to focus on your goals for creating healthy changes, both in your mood and how you cope with the world around you.
Teenage years can be difficult, both for the teenager and the adults in their life. Therapy with teenagers in terms of setting goals is no different from adult individual therapy; the client drives the goals for therapy. However input is also encouraged and recommended from parents/guardians or others close to the teenager. Approaching teenagers with honesty, respect and understanding can assist with openness, and follow through in the therapeutic process.
I am trained in both Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Either can be for the purpose of allowing you to move forward from the trauma you have experienced and assist you with coping with the event(s) that have occurred.
